Suggestions / Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher
« Last post by QuidnamInferorum on April 18, 2011, 08:36:58 pm »
This is one of my favorite books of all time. I have read it before, but I recently bought my own copy, so I want to reread it.

Synopsis (stolen from the website):
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker--his classmate and crush--who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list. Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

I've just learned that it's going to be turned into a movie...starring Selena Gomez...I don't know how to feel about this...I'm very worried.

Aspiring Authors / Shamelessly Self-Promoting My Work
« Last post by QuidnamInferorum on April 18, 2011, 08:29:39 pm »
(Not sure how to post this without seeming like a pompous a**hole...oh well, here I go!)

As the title suggests, I'm posting links to my stories. I don't write a lot of fanfiction, but I have written a few short stories, which are on my fictionpress account:

http://www.fictionpress.com/u/664765/

However, right now, I'm working on editing my novel that I wrote for the last NaNoWriMo, which you can find information on (including an excerpt) at my deviantART:

http://quidnaminferorum.deviantart.com/gallery/26197259

It's my dream to have one novel published in my lifetime, but I have had a short story published. If you want to read that one, it's also on my fictionpress:

I'd love to know your thoughts on my stories. ^_^

I've heard only great things about the show, but I didn't know it was based off a book series. I'd love to know your thoughts on the book-to-show transition as the series goes on.

Emily, has anyone told you that you're epic. Looking at your list, I feel like I'm looking at a description of me :) <3 It is ironic, but hopefully we might turn it to our advantage and promote the brilliant invention that was the novel. And it's fine if you're not always active. I understand taht some people read at different speeds than others <3

SO HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE!!!!!!! *hugs*

Suggestions / Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
« Last post by Faith Rivens on April 18, 2011, 06:20:24 pm »
Okay. So I am officially making my first suggestion. Les Miserables is such an icnoic play based off an incredible novel by Victor Hugo. I have yet to read the full version of the book. IT'S HUGE!!!! But I figured that it might be an interesting read for our book club.

Synopsis: Focusing on an ex-convict, Jean Valjean, living in France, this novel focuses on his attempts to remain free while simulateneously raising the daughter of Fantine. Take place from the battle of Waterloo to the June Revolution of 1830.
